Offaly Traveller Movement Position: Community Health Worker in Traveller Health (Specified Purpose Contract)
Offaly Traveller Movement (OTM) is a Traveller-led community development organisation, working to address issues facing Travellers in the region including, health, accommodation, youth, education, cultural and ethnic identity and human rights. A vibrant and dynamic human rights organisation which currently has 19 members of staff from various disciplines, OTM currently seeks two dynamic and capable person(s) to take up the position of Community Health Workers in Traveller Health.
The purpose of the post will be:
To address the key areas of Traveller Health as outlined in the OTM Strategic Plan 2012-2015 and the All Ireland Traveller Health Status Study (2010)
To work as part of a the Primary Health Care Programme team delivering information, advocacy, health promotion and referral pathways for Travellers in Offaly
To work alongside other specialist programmes and workers within OTM, and other relevant partners in the county, region and nationally
To represent the issues of Traveller Health on a range of forums as relevant
This post will be part-time, 12 hours per week. This position is offered on a ‘specified purpose contract’ to cover Carer’s Leave.
The successful applicant will be required to have:·
Membership of the Travelling Community or experience of engaging/working with the Traveller Community
A thorough understanding of Traveller health issues,
Demonstrated capacity to work on your own initiative and as part of a team;
Strong communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills;
A demonstrable commitment to human rights and social justice and a commitment to work from an anti-racist and equality work perspective;
