This area of work and the post of community development worker for health have been in place since 2001, and is a core part of the organisation.  Key areas of work include health policy, women’s health, domestic violence, suicide awareness, and substance misuse.  This role supports Travellers to participate on various policy structures and co-ordinates the Midland Traveller Health Network.

Programme work includes to following:

  • Hosting the Midlands Traveller Health Network and the continuation of the development of the Network.
  • Participation on Regional Advisory Committee on Violence Against Women, offering support to the Traveller representative on this same committee, and networking and liaising with Traveller representatives on the National Steering Group for Violence Against Women.
  • Supporting Traveller representatives on Offaly Domestic Violence Support Services

Linking in and networking with local, regional and national agencies: ODVSS, Pavee Point, Traveller Specific Conflict and Mediation Workers, Senior Traveller training centres, Clara Family Resource Centre, Mental Health Ireland, National Traveller Suicide Awareness Project, Mabs Tullamore, Midland Traveller Development Workers, Traveller Men’s Health Worker, and National Traveller Women’s Forum.
